BIRAJ KALYAN

This one is special. My imaginary still life, if you will. A quirky one. It was inspired by a walking sticks display that I saw at the Salarjung museum in Hyderabad. I have seen  antique walking sticks with beautifully carved handles in wood, ivory and the like, with carvings of heads of birds, animals and other mythical creatures. And the Salarjung museum had many exquisite examples of these. But what fascinated me about this particular collection was that they all had handles which were fashioned as feet of various sizes, shapes, colors and materials, with or without shoes. How quirky and imaginative was that! Especially for walking sticks! Needless to say, my Orthopedic Surgeon husband whose everyday job it is to get people back on their feet was totally enamored :))
